Studio 101 Designs collaborated with Michelle Kaufmann Studio in the design of this 2 bedroom home and is also serving as the construction management team through completion. The project is sited on a relatively compact suburban lot in Northern California and will utilize modular technology in the construction of a replacement residence allowing for a low-impact, 5-month construction process (from deconstruction of existing house to final occupancy). The house will be shipped to the site as 2 modules, each containing one bedroom, one bathroom, and half of an open kitchen/dining/living space. The modules will be set on a site-built basement which also contains space for a below grade studio with full bath.
The house was designed to incorporate many environmentally sustainable features such as natural day lighting and cross-ventilation, sustainably produced bamboo flooring, low-flow plumbing fixtures, FSC-certified cedar siding and cabinetry, no-VOC interior paint, radiant floor heating and a solar photovoltaic system (which is hidden on the roof and receives optimal unobstructed sunlight to the southwest).
