Studio 101 Designs designed this intimately scaled 2-story, 1 bedroom retreat in Northern California's wine country and will manage construction of the project through completion. Designed to be situated within the footprint of an existing home on the site (which will be de-constructed to make way for the new house) the project aims to maximize the living experience while maintaining a modest construction budget. While the exterior of the home gives an aura of an understated rural structure, the interior layout is that of an open urban loft. The entire main floor of the home is an open living/dining/kitchen space and also includes a small bathroom with a shower. The second floor is comprised of a large master suite and a library/office. A large opening in the upstairs floor adds to openness of the space and also helps to wash the whole interior with natural light and ventilation. In addition to the efficient design of the house, which allow for comfortable living while utilizing as little fossil fuel energy as possible, it will also include many sustainable building materials and finishes.
